According to Part 1, Article 2-a of the New Hampshire Constitution, all persons have the right to keep and bear arms in defense of themselves, their families, property, and the state. New Hampshire does not mandate a state permit to purchase a rifle, shotgun or handgun.
According to Revised Statutes Annotated 159:8, to purchase a pistol, revolver or other firearms, the purchaser should be personally known to the seller, and the purchaser should present clear evidence of his/her identity. Under Revised Statutes Annotated 159-D:3, illegal purchase of a firearm is a class A misdemeanor for a first offense and a class B felony for a second or subsequent offense.
