Carrying of Firearms-Hawaii

It shall be unlawful for any person on any public highway to carry any firearm loaded with ammunition.[i] However, it is legally permissible to carry a pistol or revolver in accordance with a license issued as provided in HRS § 134-9.  A person carrying firearm shall be guilty of a class B felony.

It is unlawful for a person to knowingly carry or intentionally use or threaten to use a firearm while engaged in the commission of a separate felony. [ii] The person will be guilty of a class A felony under this section, irrespective of the fact whether the firearm was loaded or not, and whether operable or not.

While Hawaii does not recognize permits issued by other states, permit issued by Hawaii authorities is recognized in Alaska, Arizona, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and Vermont.  The cost and term of permit varies from state to state.
