Carrying of Firearms-Maine

In Maine firearm means any weapon, whether loaded or unloaded, which is designed to expel a projectile by the action of an explosive and includes any such weapon commonly referred to as a pistol, revolver, rifle, gun, machine gun or shotgun. Any weapon which can be made into a firearm by the insertion of a firing pin, or other similar thing, or by repair, is also a firearm.[i] Permits to carry firearm are issued under 25 M.R.S. § 2003.  First Selectman/Chief of Police is the permit issuing authority.  The issuing authority issues permits to carry concealed firearms to an applicant who is 18 years or older and of good moral character.

The states that recognize permits issued in Maine are Alaska, Arizona, Delaware, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah and Vermont.  Maine recognizes permits from residents of Delaware, South Dakota and Louisiana.

Permit is granted for a period of four years and the cost of obtaining  permit for a resident is #35 for original application $20 for renewal.  Non resident should pay $60 for an original
