Carrying of Firearms-Pennsylvania

In Pennsylvania, it is a misdemeanor to carry any firearm with the intention of causing injury to another person.  If convicted, the offender will be sentenced to pay a fine not exceeding five hundred dollars or undergo imprisonment not exceeding one year, or both[i].

If a person convicted of committing murder, rape, robbery, burglary, kidnapping or participation in riot had in his/her possession a firearm during such commission will be sentenced to undergo imprisonment for not less than five years and not more than ten years in addition to the penalties prescribed by law[ii].

A police officer can also legally carry any firearm or other weapon only while on duty.  All such weapons carried while on duty should be left at the place of employment while leaving duty[iii].  A police officer who carries any weapon improperly will be sentenced to pay a fine of $25 and costs of prosecution.  If the person makes any default in payment, s/he will have to undergo imprisonment for not more than ten days[iv].

Pennsylvania recognizes permits to carry firearms from Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wyoming.  The states that recognize permits to carry firearms from Pennsylvania are Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wyoming.  The County Sheriff or Chief of Police issues the permit.  The cost of permit is $26 for a term of
