In South Dakota (S.D.), a person other than a law enforcement officer or parole agent acting under color of authority who carries a pistol or revolver, loaded or unloaded, concealed without a permit or carries the same in any vehicle without a permit is guilty of Class 1 misdemeanor[i].
Under S.D. Codified Laws Section 22-14-9.2, any person who is permitted to carry a concealed pistol in a state with which the S.D. has entered into a reciprocity agreement is permitted to carry a concealed pistol in the state of S.D. However, the person should carry the pistol in compliance of the S.D. law. Any violation of Section 22-14-9.2 is a Class 1 misdemeanor[ii].
South Dakota recognizes permits to carry firearms from all states. The states that recognize permits to carry firearms from South Dakota are the following: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wyoming. The permit is issued for a term of four years at a fee of $10.
