In addition to federal gun laws, most states and some local jurisdictions have additionally imposed their own firearms restrictions.  Gun laws of states exhibit marked diversity, ranging from no statutory mention, to significant provisions that are more restrictive than those of the Gun Control Act, including the absence of any mechanism for terminating the prohibition.  The penalties for violating state laws are discussed under each state.
