Purchase of Firearms-Kentucky

Article 1 section 1 of the Kentucky Constitution recognizes the “right to bear arms in defense of themselves and of the state, subject to the power of the general assembly to enact laws to prevent persons from carrying concealed weapons.”  Kentucky residents who are U.S. citizens can purchase rifles, shotguns, handguns, and any other firearms which they are permitted to purchase under federal law and the Kentucky Revised Statutes[i].  Residents of states other than Kentucky[ii] and foreign nationals[iii] also have the right to purchase firearms in Kentucky. Under federal law, only a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, or licensed dealer can engage in the business of importing, manufacturing, or dealing in firearms, or in the course of such business ship, transport, or receive any firearm in interstate or foreign commerce[iv].
