Article 3 Section 12 of the Mississippi constitution recognizes the right to bear arms and it reads as follows: “The right of every citizen to keep and bear arms in defense of his home, person, or property, or in aid of the civil power when thereto legally summoned, shall not be called in question, but the legislature may regulate or forbid carrying concealed weapons.”
In Mississippi, no permit is required for the purchase of rifle, shotgun or handguns. It is unlawful for any person to sell, give or lend any firearm or pistol cartridge to any person whom he knows to be a minor or under the influence of alcohol.
The laws governing firearms are stated under Miss. Code Ann. § 97-37-1 et.seq.
