Sale of Firearms-New Mexico

Gun law in the United States is defined by a number of state and federal statutes.  Sale or delivery of firearms is restricted in New Mexico like any other U.S. state.  In almost all the states of the US, an importer, manufacturer, dealer or collector shall be licensed under the federal Gun Control Act of 1968 to be a lawful seller.

New Mexico has state preemption of firearms laws, so local governments may not restrict the possession or use of firearms.  Residents of states contiguous to New Mexico may purchase firearms in New Mexico and Residents of New Mexico may purchase firearms in states contiguous to New Mexico.[ii]
The state constitution was amended to say, “No law shall abridge the right of the citizen to keep arms for security and defense, for lawful hunting and recreational use and for other lawful purposes, but nothing herein shall be held to permit the carrying of concealed weapons.  No municipality or county shall regulate, in any way, an incident of the right to keep and bear arms.”[

[ii] N.M. Stat. Ann. § 30-7-9
