Gun law in the United States is defined by a number of state and federal statutes. Sale or delivery of firearms is restricted in Ohio like any other U.S. state. In almost all the states of the US, an importer, manufacturer, dealer or collector shall be licensed under the federal gun control act of 1968 to be a lawful seller.
In Ohio, each federally licensed firearms dealer who sells any firearm, at the time of the sale of the firearm, shall offer for sale to the purchaser of the firearm a trigger lock, gun lock, or gun locking device that is appropriate for that firearm. “Federally licensed firearms dealer” means an importer, manufacturer, or dealer having a license to deal in destructive devices or their ammunition, issued and in effect pursuant to the federal “Gun Control Act of 1968.” Such firearms dealer shall post in a conspicuous location in the dealer’s place of business the poster furnished to the dealer pursuant to section 5502.63 of the revised code and shall make available to all purchasers of firearms from the dealer the brochure furnished to the dealer pursuant to that section.[i]
The division of criminal justice services in the department of public safety shall prepare a poster and a brochure that describe safe firearms practices. The poster and brochure shall contain typeface that is at least one-quarter inch tall. The division shall furnish copies of the poster and brochure free of charge to each federally licensed firearms dealer in the state.[ii]
